About Chatsworth Centre
Chatsworth Centre is undoubtedly part of the rich and diverse fabric of Chatsworth, playing an active and productive role in the community. With our finger firmly on the pulse of our market, the centre has established a reputation of knowing how to service the needs and wants of our target market.
The Centre is situated on a hilly terrain +/- 15 km from the centre of Durban and is bordered by the Umlaas River in the South and the Umhlatuzana River in the North. Access to the centre is via the Higginson Highway and within walking distance of the major bus routes and railway station. A mini-bus service also operates from the Centre's premises to shoppers.
The popular Chatsworth Centre, which houses approximately 150 stores, attracts over 1,3 million shoppers per month and is part of the Chatsworth CBD which houses a Post Office, Police Station, Fire Station, Chatsworth Administration Building, R.K Khan Hospital, Hare Krishna Temple of Understanding and the Mahatma Gandhi Gardens. The gross lettable area of the Chatsworth Centre is approximately 41, 445.83m2.
Bursary Awards 2008
*Running in its 17th consecutive year.
The bursary awards was initiated in 1991 with the first presentation made to students for the academic year of 1992.
A sum of five thousand two hundred and fifty Rands (R5 250-00) was sponsored to three students in that year.
The sponsorship has subsequently grown to a present amount of
R 104 000-00 with a total amount of R1 278 400 sponsored to date.
Sponsorships are obtained from the landlords of Chatsworth Centre and Phoenix Plaza, POST Newspapers and Friends (a community based organisation). These organisations are the funds initiators and principal sponsors. Sponsorships are also received from our generous tenants from both Chatsworth Centre and Phoenix Plaza.
A total of 172 students have thus far benefited from this award.
The task of the selection rests upon the shoulders of our very dedicated selection committee who have over the years offered their services willingly and free of charge.
In terms of these sponsorships, we would like to commend all contributors, especially our tenants from Chatsworth Centre who remembers this worthy cause every year. Thank you tenants for digging deep into your hard earned pockets, and helping the deserving students of our community, who will one day, have the education and background sponsored by yourself to help the outside world, should the need arise.
